Your guide to Leeds

Leeds is a vibrant city with a fantastic selection of award-winning bars, restaurants and attractions and provides the perfect location for students wanting to make the most of their time at University, and has a great choice of student accommodation. It’s big enough and bold enough to have an eclectic mix of entertainment and leisure facilities but not so big that you’ll spend all of your time trying to find them!

Leeds has five Universities (the University of Leeds, Leeds Beckett, Leeds Trinity, University, Leeds College of Music and Leeds College of Art) and one of the biggest student populations in the UK, as well the fourth largest urban economy.

It’s also one of the greenest cities in the UK with over 65% of the metropolitan district designated as green space, which means University students have plenty of outside space to take a break from their studies within walking distance from their accommodation. There’s great transport links to pretty much everywhere, the stunning Yorkshire Dales are less than 20 miles away and Conde Nast travellers magazine recently voted Leeds as the “UK’s favourite City”. Who are we to argue?!

Leeds is home to some of the leading household names in banking and insurance and is now the 3rd largest manufacturing centre in the country whilst also boasting the UK’s most diverse economy. It’s a city of opportunity but also a city that likes to enjoy itself; wear out your shoes traipsing round some of the 1,000 shops in the city – and then shop for a new pair! For University students that love the arts, you can take advantage of the only city outside of London to have its own repertory theatre, opera house and ballet company, all with great transport links or walking distance from your student accommodation.

With recent successes in Rugby and Cricket we would be remiss not to mention that Leeds has finally returned to its rightful place in football circles as we once again (after rather a long wait!) embrace Premier League football in the city. And don’t forget to check out the annual University of Leeds versus Leeds Beckett Varsity match at Headingley stadium, right in the heart of one of the popular areas for student accommodation.

Here at Sugarhouse we want you to enjoy and experience everything Leeds has to offer. We love offering suggestions and advice on where to eat, drink and play and pride ourselves on our knowledge of the city. Above all of course, we also want to help you choose where to live whilst you’re a student in Leeds! Leeds has a diverse selection of suburbs and areas, each offering an entirely different experience to its local residents. At Sugarhouse we’ll try and offer you some advice on which area of Leeds might be most suitable for you and if you already know where you want to be, then we’ll help find you the right student accommodation in your chosen area.
